Welcome to the Characters of the Realm Section of Realms of Kar'Kaish.

This thread will provide you information on the process you must go through to create an acceptable character for this roleplaying world.
We will cover Concept Creation, Character-Important Information, Detailing, Refining, Submitting, Evaluation, and Acceptance.

Concept Creation: First and foremost, you must decide what kind of character you wish to roleplay. You might be a gallant knight who leads his band of brothers in protecting the local trade caravans from raiders and bandits. You might be a mage who crafts the mana of the world into deadly or beneficial magic. Perhaps you might even be a priest or priestess who tends to one of the many deities of Ara'niel. Once you decide the basic concept of your character, you must then consider the pertinent information that must be considered for that type of character.

Character-Important Information: There are certain laws of Realms of Kar'Kaish that govern the many beings of the universe within. In the specifically titled threads of the Characters of the Realm section, you will find what laws must be considered before you proceed in character creation. Read these threads carefully and make sure you understand the contents before continuing.

Detailing: Now that you have the basic concept and have been acquainted with the way Realms of Kar'Kaish may affect that concept, you need to think of details. Your character will need a name, an appearance, a personality, a birthplace and a history. Please note that death is permanent in Realms of Kar'Kaish (Though there are spectral beings and the Arena which overrules death), so try to avoid investing many hours in character development. As your character spends more time in the world, he or she will become more resilient to death and therefore less likely to end up wasting your invested time.

Refining: Once you've got down the concept and the feel of the character, you need to fully flesh him or her out. Though you may have written how the character appears, what equipment does he or she have exactly? Your character might be decent with a sword, but what kind of sword does he or she have? Perhaps your character has been forced to learn battlefield medicine as a necessity. If your character is a mage, what spells does he or she know? For a priest or priestess, how does he or she gain favor from her patron deity or deities? Finally, revisit each of the sections you have already detailed and see if you can add more information without making that section too 'wordy', or rewrite them for better flow or to better convey meaning.

Submitting: Your character is fully written, each section detailed as well as possible. At this point you may want to review other accepted characters and compare their profile's level of detail and the character's relative skill to yours. If your character is too underpowered relative to an accepted, newly created character, you may want to add to the capabilities of your character. If your character is too overpowered, you may want to lower your character's capabilities.
Make a new topic, titled with your character's name. The body of the thread should contain the edited character template and nothing more. After this thread is posted, an Administrator, Moderator, or otherwise appointed member of Realms of Kar'Kaish will review your character for evaluation.

Evaluation: Once your character's profile has been posted, a reviewer from Realms of Kar'Kaish will read the profile and determine if it meets certain criteria. If your character is acceptable, you may begin to roleplay him or her in the world of Realms of Kar'Kaish. If some areas of the profile are unacceptable, the reviewer will note exactly what areas these are and what criteria they may violate. If this is the case, the reviewer may also give suggestions on how to edit your character to an acceptable state. If you believe this review is unacceptable in some manner, you may appeal to an Administrator. The Administrator will look over the character and the review and determine if the review was in fact acceptable or unacceptable, and may call for another review. This process will continue until your character is deemed acceptable.

Acceptance: Once your character is accepted, you may then roleplay with your character. Please note that the starting area for your character must make sense. If it is not immediately logical, some explanation may be in order. Note that there may be member restrictions on roleplayers, such as brand new members. Whatever the case may be, information following acceptance will be written in future articles. For now, follow the advice of the senior members and commands of the Administrator.

The following is the Character Template for Realms of Kar'Kaish. To use this template, select the 'Quote' button above, and copy/paste the sections into your own Character Profile.
______________________________________________________________

Name: This is the Character's Name.

Title: This is the Character's Title. A title is given to a character as a result of fame, a position in a hierarchy, or granted by other means. For hierarchies of organizations, please see the relevant organization's profile. If no such profile exists, or the organization is more basic or simply not yet created, please contact a senior member for advice or discuss it with the Administrator.

Class: This is the Character's Class. A class is a general type of character that your character resembles. A class might be a mage, a swordsman, an archer, a knight, etc. Until such a time that the List of Classes is created, please seek the advice of the senior members or the Administrator for classifying your character.

Appearance: This is the Character's Appearance. This section should fully describe how other beings in the world immediately perceive your character, including any peculiar mannerisms in their gait or speech.

Personality: This is the Character's Personality. This section should describe how other roleplayers should perceive the tone of roleplaying posts pertinent to this character, and how other characters should perceive this character after knowing them for some time. How spirited (or unspirited) their speech may be, if they are easily prone to anger, if they are loyal or disloyal, etc.

Skills: These are the Character's Skills. This section should describe the full capabilities of the character, such as their skill with a particular type or sub-type of weapon, their social or espionage skills, as well as that of medicine or other relevant concepts. Each skill should be it's own subsection, titled with italics and a colon ":", with a description of the character's qualitative skill level with an optional history as to how they earned the skill level.

Equipment: This is the Character's Equipment. Every item, including armor, weapons, and the more mundane, should be listed here. Items in plentiful bulk, such as sheets of paper or matches, do not need to have the number recorded. These items may also be determined to be Super-Mundane, in that they not even need be listed here (such as a lantern in an urban setting). Super-Mundane items will be listed and removed during Character Evaluation. All other items must have their number listed. Each item must be listed according to importance, with readily expendable items, such as daggers or magical catalysts on bottom. Very important or overly unusual/unique items should be listed in Italics and may even carry their own description (similar to a skill under the Skills section). Readily expendable items should be underlined, as these will usually be frequently updated.

Recent History: This is the Character's Recent History. This section should contain a basic history of the character, with more attention paid to events happening closer to the current roleplaying time. As time goes on, or as the character naturally becomes more resilient to death, updating or further developing the character's history will become necessary.

I like. Should we make a lists of general skills for people to choose from you think? I wouldn't dream of limiting it to that list but it might be a good baseline from people to work from. Particularly for noobs.

Absolutely. I think a good resource would be to hit up a lot of different rpg games, including a lot of intensive roguelikes, and then discard whatever's too much for us. That can be something we work on on Saturday. For future Saturdays, I'll be looking in to get some GoogleDoc and other such support which will be easier to access than the forum. If it's just too much then I'll drop it, but it's at least an idea.

Alright. I would also like to add in a category about sub-humans. Right now the only one we have is the Mortii (possibly Orhal) but it should be there. That being said I'd like to place heavy limits. I view this as a mostly human roleplaying site and would hate to see a bunch of fanbois wanting to be vampires butchering them for jokes.
