Mearcian Monarchy Empty Mearcian Monarchy

Government Type:

Electoral Feudal Monarchy

Current Monarch:

King Aerywyn Haerthorne I

Geography:

The Mearc encompasses all the lands east from the Lake Vëannë and to the northern edge of the woods of the Lalaith, as well as a small part of the upper Nrodrath river. The landscape is comprised of foothills and densely wooded with decidious forests, with the exception of the river plains and cleared land about the Lake of Veanne. Warm in summer and cold in winter, the Mearc is subject to the changes of an inland climate, though is generally quite cool. Winter sees many of the passes plugged with snow and sometimes the lake is covered with ice, however rare that may be. Steady year round rainfall provide plenty of vegetation; evidence given by the Lalaith Woods, a slightly misleading name for so vast an expanse of greenery.

Economy:

Largely agrarian due to the rich alluvial plains, although because Mearcia envelops the gap of Maithas, one of the few relaible routes through the mountains seperating the riverlands, trade is good. There is also a growing level of craftsmanship in the city of Altheas and the surrounding townships.

Culture:

Significant Cities:

Altheas

Bordering the lake of Veanne, Altheas is the largest city in the Mearc and is the seat of power for the presiding House at the time. With the diminishing reliability of trade by sea, cities like Altheas are in the ascendance with budding opportunities for economic growth.
